SMILE DESIGN

What Is Smile Design?
The importance of a good smile lies at the foundation of human communication and cannot be denied. A genuine smile boosts your self-confidence to its highest level and supports the positive perception others have of you. Research shows that when we speak or smile, our full attention is drawn to the other person's teeth. An unpleasant dental appearance can create negative feelings in others. A good smile will add value to your worth.

What Is an Ideal Smile?
The most ideal smile is one that harmonizes perfectly with your face, maintains its natural look, and is visually pleasing. An ideal smile gains meaning through the structure of your teeth.

What Factors Affect an Ideal Smile?
The anatomical structures of women and men differ. This difference also influences smile design. Men’s facial features are generally sharper compared to women’s. Women tend to have a more curved smile line, whereas men’s lines are typically straighter.

There is much information about face shape. The most well-known is the similarity between the shape of the face and the general form of the teeth. Small but effective adjustments can achieve excellent results. For example, longer teeth for an oval-shaped face can make the face appear longer and thinner.

Aging causes noticeable darkening of tooth color, shortening of tooth length, and irregularities on tooth surfaces. Gum recession, which is a common problem among many patients, leads to gaps between teeth. You can easily prevent the effects of aging. You can lighten your tooth color, close visible gaps with prosthetics, and consult your dentist to correct dental irregularities.

Replacing missing teeth supports improved speech and prevents collapse in the cheek and lip areas. Aging also causes deformities in the lips. The upper lip sags downward. Over time, the upper teeth become less visible while the lower teeth become more prominent, which is noticeable. This may limit your smile.

Lips can be considered the frames surrounding our teeth. Teeth are adjusted according to the general structure of the lips—whether they are long, short, thick, or thin—to correct defects. This gives meaning to your smile. Gums are very important as they surround our teeth. No matter how beautiful your teeth are, problems you experience can spoil the overall beauty. Inflammation of the gums causes swelling, redness, and shiny appearances, all of which affect aesthetics. In some individuals, gums appear more prominent than they should, a condition known as gummy smile. In such cases, gums are reshaped to a form that does not affect the smile. The individual’s smile gains meaning. Sometimes, gaps occur due to gum recession, which can be resolved with prosthetic restorations.

Dark pigmentation in the gums is common among people with darker skin tones. This is a problem that can be easily removed with laser treatment. In cases of excessive gum recession, tissue grafts taken from inside the mouth can facilitate treatment. Advances in dentistry allow various aesthetic problems to be solved. We can lighten dark teeth color by approximately 4-5 shades within about half an hour. In some cases, whitening alone is insufficient. These patients are treated with laminates, crowns, or adhesive techniques. We work with the philosophy of preserving the natural and apply effective solutions. For patients with misalignment problems, we first try to solve the issue with orthodontic treatment. If this is insufficient, we develop prosthetic solutions.

We eliminate disturbing appearances during smiling by replacing dark fillings with tooth-colored fillings. Besides composite fillings matching tooth color, we also use porcelain fillings for restoration. Minor abrasions or shape distortions can be easily treated with adhesive treatments or laminates.

Does Smile Design Lead to Perfect Smiles?
After smile design treatment, when you look in the mirror and smile, you can be confident that you will experience a wonderful process every moment of your life. Remember, smile design considers teeth, lip structure, nose, and cheeks as a whole. You may have beautiful teeth, but if your lips are incompatible, you cannot achieve an ideal appearance.

Anyone can get smile design treatment at any age. Thanks to implant applications, excellent results can be achieved even in patients with complete tooth loss.
